Kathmandu, Nov. 24: A meeting of the CPN (UML)
Standing Committee today welcomed the call by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav to
the political parties for choosing a Prime Minister and forming the Council of
Ministers based on political consensus, terming it positive.
President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, through a press
communiqué on Friday, called on the political parties to come up with an
appropriate proposal for the selection of the prime minister and constitution
of the Council of Ministers under that person's chairmanship by 4 p.m. on
November 29, Thursday.
The Standing Committee that met at the party
headquarters in Balkhu on Saturday concluded that the President's call was a
positive step for ending the political uncertainty and deadlock, said the CPN
(UML) secretary Yubaraj Gyawali. Party chairman Jhalanath Khanal chaired the
meeting.
He said the meeting also decided to immediately hold
discussions with political parties for selecting a consensus candidate for the
post of Prime Minister and constitution of the Council of Ministers in line
with the President's call.
Gyawali said the meeting decided to hold discussions
with the opposition political parties including the Nepali Congress for
constituting a new government, stressing on the formation of a government of
national consensus.
The meeting concluded that the President made this
call as per the spirit of the uprising of the opposition political parties, he
added.
He said, "The CPN (UML) is intensifying talks
with the other political parties for selecting the Prime Minister on the basis
of political consensus within the deadline given by the President."
Meanwhile, the CPN (UML) has called the meeting of
its Politburo at 11 a.m. on November 27 and 28 at the party headquarters to
discuss the political developments in the country.
