Itahari,
Nov. 9: Twelve inmates have fled from Regional Jail in Jhumka of Sunsari
district last night.
Those
fleeing are seven Indian, four Nepali and one Bangladeshi national implicated
in robbery, murder, kidnappings, among others, and serving long prison term.
Of
those fleeing is Bangladeshi national Asraf Ali Ansari who was involved in
various crimes and was also the guard of the jail.
Similarly,
other inmates fleeing are Indian national Sarafraj Miya, Bambam Yadav
alias Dinesh, Dhirendra Yadav, Mumtaj Miya, Jakir Miya, Subas Miya, Subas Jha
and Nepali national Ramesh Yadav, Binayak Yadav, Farooq Miya Raya and Ramesh
Sada.
They
ran away by digging a tunnel at the open space between No. 2 and 4 guard posts
of the jail. They fled the jail from
12:00 pm to 1:00 am mid night, police estimated.
Other
inmates have said they might have run away in coalesce with the police administration.The
administration sensed their fleeing only after the number did not reach the
total 615 in roll call at 5:00 in the morning today.
They
might have planned the tunnel for a year, and had not allowed others to go
there.
They
had used iron rods, sickle, shovel and other equipments for digging the tunnel.
Eastern Regional Police Chief Parshuram Khatri said the police administration
is serious over the issue and has sealed the border and search has been
intensified.
