Kathmandu, Nov. 1: The big political
parties, including the Madhesi front, discussed the issue of elections but
failed to reach to a conclusion on Thursday.
At the discussion held in Lalitpur, the parties
forwarded their proposals as in the past but did not agree in any of the
proposal, said the leaders after the meeting.
UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said
although they discussed more about elections and clearance of the political
impasse, conclusion could not be drawn. The talks would continue, he added.
Laws necessary to hold election, number of
representatives in the new Constituent Assembly, electoral system, national
consensus government were other topics in the discussion.
However, Chairman Dahal said all parties were serious
about resolving the crisis at the earliest.
Similarly, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala
said they discussed multifarious issues but could not reach to a conclusion.
So, further discussions were needed.
CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said the
discussion today did not make any positive developments.
According to senior leader of the UML Madhav Kumar Nepal, the
parties were for the election in coming April/May but the electoral system for
this was still contentious.
UML's stand was clear that ouster of present
government was a must for holding new election, he added.
However, Chairman of the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik
Party Mahanth Thakur said the parties discussed various issues but differed on
the issues of federalism.
Only top leaders of the big parties attended the
meeting.
