Opposition parties blame govt. for prolonging regime

Kathmandu, Nov. 21: The opposition parties have drawn a conclusion that the caretaker government has tried to extend its tenure by declaring the date of election by mid- May.
A meeting of 19 opposition parties including the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Janashakti Party held at the UML headquarters in Balkhu today determined that it was only a conspiracy of the government to stick to power by declaring the next date of election.
Talking briefly to media persons after the meeting, NC leader Dr. Ramsharan Mahat said that they are serious on the budget brought by the government through ordinance.
Mahat added that there was no alternative to launching a stern agitation against the move of the government.
Stating that declaring the date of election and bringing budget through ordinance without forging consensus was government's autocracy and totalitarianism, he said this move has reduced the possibility of consensus.
Coming to a conclusion of fresh mandate for new constitution and formation of a national consensus government for fresh mandate, the meeting also expressed regret towards declaration of the date of election and budget by the government.
Similarly, UML leader Bamdev Gautam said that they have no objection to the approval of the budget by the President as it was his right, but declaring the date of election and submitting ordinance by a caretaker government was condemnable.
NC leader Arjun Narsingh KC said that declaring the date of next election against constitutional and legal arrangement was wrong.
