SSP SHRESTHA SUSPENDED

Kathmandu, Oct. 31: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rabiraj Shrestha has been suspended from his post for the next three months.
The Ministry of Home Affairs decided to suspend SSP Shrestha on the charge of his involvement in the failed smuggling of foreign currency from the Tribhuvan International Airport and to investigate into the case as per the ministerial-level decision.
The Ministry dispatched a letter to the Nepal Police Headquarters informing the latter about Shrestha's suspension, said Ministry Spokesperson Shankar Prasad Koirala.
Involvement of SSP Shrestha in the smuggling of foreign currency has been suspected since the arrest of One Binod Kumar Soni with different foreign currency worth Rs. 12.4 million from the TIA some three weeks ago.
A committee formed by the Police Headquarters to investigate into the case had suspected  SSP Shrestha's involvement in the smuggling.  The currency was seized from Dubai-bound aircraft. Shrestha's vehicle was found to have been used to pass the currency from the airport checking with the help of his driver Soviet Karki.
A CCTV installed at the airport has recorded the event in which SSP Shrestha's driver Karki passed the currency through sensitive route of the airport. Karki, however, is on the run after incident.
