Now, the capital has started to
stink due to uncollected garbage in the streets and pavement of the city.
According
to the Environment Management Department at the Kathmandu Metropolitan Office,
the Department has not been able to collect all garbage produced daily in the
capital as almost employees for garbage management are on the Dashain leave.
Around 400 metric tonnes garbage
produced in the capital in a day and 20 containers are needed for its disposal,
Department's engineer Purushottam Shakya said.
But, at present the Department is able to
operate only five and six vehicles for the purpose of garbage disposal due to a
lack of human resources.
Besides, the volume of garbage
production has increased in the capital during the festive season and the problem
arose as the Department is not able to manage it as per the production ratio.
