 Ilam, Oct. 1: Bodies of six of the 14 persons missing in the landslides that took place at the Harkate-Hanspokhari section of the Mechi highway have been recovered.
According to the District Police Office, among the six two of the bodies have been identified as that of Sharan Pradhan,42, of Fikkal, Ilam and 40-year-old Dawa Sherpa of Sukiya Pokhari in Darjeeling, India. Pradhan's body was found some 500 meters below the road while Sherpa's body was recovered from the Biring river in Ghailaduba of neighbouring Jhapa district.
Fourteen persons travelling in five vehicles had been swept away in a landslide that took place at Chisopani of Kolbung VDC-1 on Sunday night.
Those missing when a santro car (Me.1Cha.1256) was swept away in the landslide that took place at around 8:00 pm last night are Subas Pradhan,34, Mandira Pradhan,30, and Padam Pradhan,35, of Samalbung.
Others still missing include residents of Sukiyapokhari in India. Those travelling in another santro car (Me.1Cha.1191) include Arati Sherpa,32, Tsering Kesang Sherpa,15, 11-year-old Biswaraj Mukhiya, Namgyal Bhutia,35, Choden Bhutia, 34, and seven-year-old Yangkila Sherpa. Also missing is driver Ajit Yalmu of Pashupatinagar.
Police, army and government officials from Ilam and Jhapa districts are involved in the search and rescue work.
 Meanwhile, driver of a pick-up (Ko.1Cha.2691) Roshan Tamang and his assistant Kumar Tamang were able to escape and save their lives in the landslide that swept away the vehicle. However, the owner of the vehicle who was also travelling was swept away.
