Kathmandu, Oct. 28: President Dr Ram
Baran Yadav has urged the top leaders of opposition parties to be serious
towards drafting the new constitution with ending the existing political
stalemate so as to protect the achievements of people's movement- 2062-063 BS.
During his separate meetings with
Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala and CPN (UML) Chairman Jhalanath
Khanal today, the President urged for this.
During the meeting with the both
leaders, the President is learnt to have expressed his serious concerns over
the present political deadlock and constitutional vacuum in the country.
He reminded them to his past calls
that he made with them personally and in group for forging the national
consensus.
Talking to media persons following
the meeting, NC President Koirala said the President was worried about a delay
in forging a consensus among the parties, despite several assurances from them
to that end.
During the meeting, NC President
Koirala told the President that the Congress was not in line of reinstating the
dissolved Constituent Assembly (CA) and underlined the need of going for fresh
election.
Similarly, UML Chairman Khanal
opined that the incumbent government should step down to pave a way for
consensus and an alliance up to two parties would be better for ensuring the
national consensus.Stating
that the UML was in line of holding new elections with the constitution of
national consensus government, he accused the UCPN ( Maoist) of wanting to go
for a revolt rather than becoming honest to the past agreement.
