PARTIES AGREE TO MAKE ONE MORE EFFORT FOR CONSENSUS

Kathmandu, Oct. 30:  The major political parties including the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) have reiterated their commitment to consensus.
A meeting  of top leaders of the major parties including the Madhesi Front this morning held at the Army Integration Special Committee Secretariat based at New Baneshwor in the capital decided to make one more effort for ending the present political deadlock by forging consensus on the remaining issues of constitution-drafting.
The meeting has handed over the responsibility of making environment for consensus to the top brass. Although the meeting was univocal on the view of going for fresh elections for breaking the political deadlock, it reached to an agreement of making an effort once more for a package deal on the disputed issues.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Nepali Congress Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said the meeting agreed to make an effort for the last time for consensus.
A proposal was tabled in the meeting for dealing with the agreed and the remaining issues in the constitution writing process separately. The meeting ended without any concrete conclusion as the ruling parties entered the budget issues sidelining the issues of consensus, he said.
Similarly, CPN(UML) senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said the political parties have to reach to a certain common point  for reinstating the CA or opting for fresh election since  some constitutional and legal process are a must for this.
Both the  announcement of the full-fledged budget and holding fresh election under the leadership of the incumbent government are not acceptable to us, he said, adding that in the meeting he has tabled a seven-point proposal for finding a way out to the existing crisis in the country.
Similarly, UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Agni Sapkota  said all the  political parties present in the meeting  reiterated their stances on ending the present crisis and they shall meet again for a package deal.
There was no alternative to going for new election no matter whether the CA is revived or not, he added.
Likewise, Rajendra Mahato of Madhesi Front said all the political parties were in the line of seeking fresh people's mandate for a political way out to the present crisis.
UCPN ( Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Vice Chairman and Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, Vice President Poudel, General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula, CPN (UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, senior leader Nepal, Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam, and Madhesi Front coordinator Bijay Kumar  Gachchhadar were present in the meeting.
