Kathmandu, 5 Jan. Nepal Army Chief Gaurav SJB Rana is arriving in New Delhi on a nine-day official visit on Sunday.
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to confer on Rana the Honorary Rank of General of the Indian Army amid a special function at Rastrapati Bhavan in Raisina Hill.
Rana, who will be accompanied by his wife, will be busy in high-level meetings prior to this investiture ceremony.
On Monday, he will start his formal visit by laying a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti in India Gate where subsequently he will be given a Guard of Honour by the Indian Army.
Following these programmes, Rana will hold a meeting with his Indian counterpart Bikram Singh. He is also scheduled to meet the Chiefs of the Indian Navy and Air Force separately.
He will wrap up Monday’s formal meetings with a deliberation with Indian Defence Minister AK Antony, the Indian Army said.
On Tuesday, Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid, National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon and Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai will call on Rana separately.
The next day, Rana will leave for a visit to different commands of the Indian army across different states. Rana is scheduled to return home on January 15. A six-member delegation led by Rana will also include Military Secretary Brig Gen Himalaya Thapa
