Nepal lobbying for 'former prime ministers' forum'

KATHMANDU, JAN 01 - Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has started lobbying to form a forum of former prime ministers .

Addressing a program in the Capital, former PM Nepal put forth his belief that the 'platform of prime ministers' would play a positive vital role in the financial and overall development of the nation. He claimed that the former prime ministers have to play the role of a guardian in the present context.

"I am lobbying to create the forum. This is a platform where we all will be having a single voice for both praise and criticism," said Nepal.

"The forum would focus on the areas such as finance, environment, education, good governance, discrimination, violence against women, foreign strategy and so forth," said the former prime minister.

Among the 36 former prime ministers Surya Bahadur Thapa, Dr Tulsi Giri, Kirti Nidhi Bista, Marich Man Sinch, Lokendra Bahadur Chand, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Jhala Nath Khanal are still alive.

In another context, Nepal requested UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is currently in Bangkok accompanying his wife through a medical checkup, to return as soon as possible.

"I pray that Mrs Dahal has a soon recovery. However, if it is going to take long, then I think Dahal should leave someone to take care of her and return to Nepal as soon as possible," said Nepal.
