CPN-Maoists vandalise Nepal Derivative Exchange


KATHMANDU, 5 JAN: About a dozen armed cadres of a breakaway faction of the ruling Unified CPN-Maoist stormed the corporate office the country's derivative exchange and vandalised its property after it refused to pay donation for the group's upcoming general convention.
Cadres belonging to CPN-Maoist barged into the office of Nepal Derivative Exchange (NDEX) at Tinkune in the outskirt of Kathmandu causing a damage of more than Rs 1.5 million as an extortion drive.
The group had vandalised the office of the company on Friday after it refused to pay Rs 2.5 million donation, according to the police.
According to the company sources, nine computers, seven doors, one main gate, a front table office partitions and other physical properties worth Rs 1.5 million were damaged in the attack.
The group had scattered pamphlets of CPN-Maoist led by hardliner leader Mohan Vaidya, according to the company. Issuing a statement, the NDEX has asked the government to take stern action against the culprits and demanded compensation against the damage to its property.
However, top hardliner leader Mohan Vaidya, chairman of CPN-Maoist, has said that his party does not have the policy to collect donation by using force.
“We, however, welcome voluntary donations,” Vaidya said.(PTI)
