Nepal Press Union slams PM clarification on radio talk

KATHMANDU: Nepal Press Union has condemned the prime minister’s move to seek clarification with journalist Pramod Dahal and executive director of Radio Nepal Suresh Karki on Tuesday.
PM Dr Baburam Bhattarai, according to Union, questioned Dahal and Karki after they aired a radio talk with Nepali Congress leader Manmohan Bhattarai who termed the PM an agent of Hindustan during the talk.
The union has alleged that the PM had directed the Minister for Information and Communication to seek clarification with Dahal and Karki and the minister did so.
The union has claimed that this kind of act has made mockery of the minimum standards of democracy and is against the freedom of press and expression.
Issuing a press statement, on behalf of the union, Shiva Lamsal, general secretary of the union condemned the move of the PM, communication minister and secretary and chief secretary.
The union has demanded to correct the mistake and make apology.
Meanwhile, Press Chautari has also condemned the PM’s clarification with journalist.
Issuing a press statement, it has said that PM move has replicated as he is misusing his power and position seeking clarification on merely personal remarks and expression.
