The District Court of Dailekh on Sunday remanded local Maoist leader
Lachhiram Gharti Magar, accused in the murder of journalist Dekendra Raj Thapa, to judicial custody for five days.
According to Police Inspector Binod Sharma, the local CPN-Maoist leader Lachhiram Ram Gharti Magar aka 'Prakash' was sent to custody for further interrogation in connection with the 2004 murder case. The District Attorneys' Office (DAO) recorded Magar's statement before remanding him into custody.
Police on Saturday had arrested five persons including the Maoist leader on suspicion of their involvement in the abduction and subsequent murder of journalist Dekendra Thapa.
Locals took out a rally chanting slogans against the accused demanding severe punishment.
Dakendra, who worked for Radio Nepal, was abducted by the Maoists rebels in June 26, 2004 from Dailekh. The Maoists tortured him in captivity for more than a month before they finally killed him on August 11. His body was found buried in a jungle near Dwari VDC after four years in 2008.
