Among the South Asian countries, Nepal is close to getting the 'polio free'
tag.
At a news conference organised by the District
Public Health Office, Parsa, today, on the eve of the 15th National Polio
Immunization Day-2070, it was informed that the World Health Organisation (WHO)
awards the 'polio free' tag to countries when no symptoms of polio is seen
anywhere in that country for three years continuously.
Arun Kumar Mahato, Chief Public Health
Administrator at the District Public health Office, Parsa, said that the
country is going to be declared as polio free country on February 14 as per the
provision.
Polio drops would be administrated to children
below five years in the district on December 21 and 22 in the first phase and
January 25 and 26 in the second phase, he added.
Mahato said that high-level coordination and
co-work among all bodies concerned is going on to make the campaign effective.
